SUMMARY:Curator Tour: The Thompson-Neely House
DESCRIPTION:Tour\nStep back in time with a free guided tour of the historic Thompson-Neely House on Sunday\, July 12 at 1:30 PM.\nPark curator Kimberly McCarty will lead a guided tour of the house\, which served as a temporary Continental Army hospital during Washington’s winter campaign of 1776/1777 in Bucks County. Ill and injured soldiers were brought to this home of the Thompson and Neely families for medical treatment and recovery.\nA young officer from Virginia named James Monroe\, who was seriously injured during the First Battle of Trenton\, convalesced at this site. In 1817\, he became the fifth president of the United States.\nWounded with Monroe was William Washington\, a distant cousin of the commander-in-chief. He too recovered at this location. Captain James Moore of the New York Artillery died here of camp fever on Christmas day and is buried on the property (in what is now the Soldiers Graves area)\, along with other men who died either in the encampment or battle.\nCapacity is limited to the first 10 registrants. Registration opens on June 15. Please call the Visitor Center at 215-493-4076 to register.\nGarden Workshop\nAs an optional addition to the day\, you’re invited to learn how to create tonics and teas in the Thompson-Neely House Garden beginning at 11:00 AM. This workshop will be led by historical horticulturalist Anna Davis-Agostini.
