DESCRIPTION:Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary in Historic Newtown during Newtown Celebrates America 250 on Saturday\, August 8\, 2026. This free community celebration features Revolutionary War reenactments\, living historians\, military drills for children\, colonial crafts\, historic site tours\, museum exhibits\, demonstrations\, and family activities throughout Newtown’s walkable historic district. \nMorning activities include Revolutionary War encampments\, fife and drum performances\, and the Battle at the Bird-in-Hand featuring approximately 50 reenactors portraying American and British forces. Following the battle\, visitors are invited to stay for a special patriotic ceremony featuring a 21-gun salute and a community sing-along of “Happy Birthday” led by Mayor Tara Grunde-McLaughlin. \nAfternoon experiences invite visitors to explore historic churches\, museums\, meeting houses\, and community landmarks while discovering stories spanning the Revolutionary War\, Civil War\, early Pennsylvania history\, and the people who helped shape Newtown and America. \nFeatured experiences include demonstrations of Newtown’s restored 200-year-old hand-pumped fire engine\, first-person interpretation portraying Harriet Tubman\, Hessian soldiers discussing their experiences during the Revolutionary War\, William Penn interpretation\, historic exhibits\, and much more. \nVisitors are also invited to enjoy a Great American Cookout in the Boone Garden featuring complimentary hot dogs\, chips\, water\, and ice cream courtesy of Penn Community Bank and the Newtown Rotary Club. \nPresented by the Newtown Historic Association and community partners\, Newtown Celebrates America 250 is part of the broader Semiquincentennial celebration taking place throughout Bucks County and Pennsylvania. \nLearn more at www.newtown2026.com.

DESCRIPTION:The Washington Crossing Historic Park Book Club invites history enthusiasts to explore the American Revolution through engaging discussion and carefully selected readings. Led by the park’s Museum Curator\, Kimberly McCarty\, the club meets virtually via Zoom and focuses on books that shed new light on the Revolutionary era\, with special emphasis on the events surrounding the Delaware River crossing and the 1776 campaign. Free and open to all\, meetings typically take place on the third Monday of each month and provide an opportunity to connect with fellow readers while deepening your understanding of this pivotal period in American history. \nRunning from Bondage tells the compelling stories of enslaved women\, who comprised one-third of all runaways\, and the ways in which they fled or attempted to flee bondage during and after the Revolutionary War. Karen Cook Bell’s enlightening and original contribution to the study of slave resistance in eighteenth-century America explores the individual and collective lives of these women and girls of diverse circumstances\, while also providing details about what led them to escape. She demonstrates that there were in fact two wars being waged during the Revolutionary Era: a political revolution for independence from Great Britain and a social revolution for emancipation and equality in which Black women played an active role. DESCRIPTION:Join the WCPA Conservation Crew on a forest restoration project! \nWe will inspect and weed around the 600 native tree and shrub seedlings that we have planted along the historic Continental Lane Trail to ensure they continue to thrive. Then we will return later this year to plant 200 more! \nAges 16+. No experience necessary. Bring gloves and a tool like shears or pruners if you have them.
