DESCRIPTION:  \n \nEvent Overview\nWashington Crossing Historic Park will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Sunday\, May 24 at 1 PM at the Revolutionary War Soldiers’ Gravesite behind the Thompson-Neely House (1638 River Road\, New Hope\, PA 18938). \nThe observance will include a colonial color guard\, fife and drum music\, Revolutionary War reenactors\, veterans\, and other honored guests as we gather to pause and reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice. \nDuring the ceremony\, American flags will be placed on the graves of soldiers who died during the Continental Army’s December 1776 encampment in Bucks County. While no Americans were killed during the Delaware River crossing or the First Battle of Trenton\, some soldiers later died from exposure\, disease\, or previous injuries. Captain-Lieutenant Moore is the only soldier buried at this site whose identity is known. \nWe hope you will join us in remembering their sacrifice and honoring all those who have served. \nEach year\, the park invites a military leader from our community to share reflections on the significance of Memorial Day and the importance of remembering the sacrifice and service that have helped shape our nation. \nKeynote Speaker: Captain Timothy Reeves\nCaptain Timothy Reeves of the Lower Makefield Township Police Department will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. A Bucks County native\, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve and deployed to Fallujah\, Iraq in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom\, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for courage and distinguished service. \nIn his civilian career\, Captain Reeves continues his commitment to public service as an assistant commander of the Bucks County Major Incident Response Team (MIRT)\, a multi-agency partnership of 21 police departments that responds to major emergencies throughout the county. His leadership reflects a deep dedication to the safety and well-being of his community. \nDuring the ceremony\, he will offer reflections on sacrifice and the enduring meaning of Memorial Day\, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. \nMaster of Ceremonies: Lieutenant Colonel Spencer G. Garrison\nWe are also honored to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Spencer G. Garrison as Master of Ceremonies. With over 16 years of service in the U.S. Army\, including 13 years as a public affairs officer\, he has represented the Army on national and international stages. \nGarrison has commanded a public affairs detachment\, served at the corps and brigade levels\, and deployed to Iraq\, Afghanistan\, and other locations worldwide. He currently serves as Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\, a major command of more than 35\,000 personnel supporting the engineering needs of the nation and military. \nA 2009 graduate of West Point\, he earned a master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2019. A Yardley native\, he enjoys running\, photography\, and spending time with his family. Since 2018\, he has also served as an oarsman alongside his father during the annual reenactment of Washington’s Crossing of the Delaware. \n \n\nDue to anticipated increased attendance this year\, we kindly request that all guests pre-register. We will continue monitoring weather conditions and will share updates if anything changes. \nWe sincerely appreciate everyone’s support and understanding. Craig\, Jr. will be our Keynote Speaker. His major Federal military decorations include: the Army Distinguished Service Medal; Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal (fourth award); Army Commendation Medal (second award); Army Achievement Medal; and the Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon (fifth award). He is a member of the US Army National ROTC Hall of Fame\, inducted in 2016. His major National Guard awards include the Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal; North Carolina Distinguished Service Medal; Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal (second award); Pennsylvania Service Ribbon (ninth award); and two Governor’s Meritorious Unit Citations. \nAmerican flags will be placed on the graves. The gravesite marks the resting place of soldiers who died during the Continental army’s December 1776 encampment in Bucks County. DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Washington Crossing Park (PA) and the historic Newtown Theatre are teaming up for a third year to present a free outdoor jazz concert on Saturday\, May 25 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The concert will be held on the banks of the Delaware River near the park’s visitor center. \nThe featured jazz artist this year is Calli Graver. Graver’s love for jazz\, classical and pop helped shape the genre-bending sound heard in her original music today. Her newest album\, “The Sun’s In My Eyes\,” produced by Ben O’Neil (John Legend\, Jill Scott)\, was released in September 2022 to critical acclaim. The album accompanies fans on their day-to-day journeys\, exploring sophisticated writing and musicianship from her band with warmth\, nostalgia\, and plain ol’ fun. \nIn addition to recording original music\, Graver has sung with legends like Aretha Franklin\, Michael Bublé\, Josh Groban\, and Andrea Bocelli\, and worked with several symphonies\, orchestras and philharmonics spanning the nation. \nRita’s Ice will be available onsite. Attendees are welcome to bring their own picnic dinner\, chairs\, and blankets. Alcohol is not permitted in the state park. Four-legged friends are welcome but must be leashed and under control at all times. \nNo registration is required for this free concert. Rain date is Monday\, May 27 at the same time. Moore served in Captain Alexander Hamilton’s New York Artillery Unit before his death December 25\, 1776. \nAfter the dedication\, American flags will be placed on the graves. The gravesite marks the resting place of soldiers who died during the Continental army’s December 1776 encampment in Bucks County. Although no Americans were killed during the Delaware River crossing and the First Battle of Trenton\, some soldiers succumbed to exposure\, disease or previous injuries. Captain-Lieutenant Moore is the only veteran buried in this plot whose identity is known. \nAlso in attendance will be representatives of the modern US Army artillery unit that shares its lineage with the New York Artillery Regiment of 1776\, the 1st Battalion 5th Field Artillery “Hamilton’s Own.” 1st Lieutenant Colin Alexander and Sergeant 1st Class Roger Siewert will be representing their unit at the ceremony.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, May 28 from 10 AM to 4 PM\, watch as the Thompson-Neely sheep are shorn of their wool and tour the grist mill at this family friendly event. This limited event will include a trip to the barn for a hand shearing presentation as well as period demonstrations and tours of our historic Grist Mill. From there\, follow the Colonial process of washing and carding the wool and spinning it into yarn. You’ll also get a take-home activity kit\, full of Colonial crafts! \nShearings are held every hour\, and mill tours are held on the half hour 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Pre-registration is required.
