DESCRIPTION:  \n \nEvent Overview\nWashington Crossing Historic Park will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Sunday\, May 24 at 1 PM at the Revolutionary War Soldiers’ Gravesite behind the Thompson-Neely House (1638 River Road\, New Hope\, PA 18938). \nThe observance will include a colonial color guard\, fife and drum music\, Revolutionary War reenactors\, veterans\, and other honored guests as we gather to pause and reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice. \nDuring the ceremony\, American flags will be placed on the graves of soldiers who died during the Continental Army’s December 1776 encampment in Bucks County. While no Americans were killed during the Delaware River crossing or the First Battle of Trenton\, some soldiers later died from exposure\, disease\, or previous injuries. Captain-Lieutenant Moore is the only soldier buried at this site whose identity is known. \nWe hope you will join us in remembering their sacrifice and honoring all those who have served. \nEach year\, the park invites a military leader from our community to share reflections on the significance of Memorial Day and the importance of remembering the sacrifice and service that have helped shape our nation. \nKeynote Speaker: Captain Timothy Reeves\nCaptain Timothy Reeves of the Lower Makefield Township Police Department will serve as this year’s keynote speaker. A Bucks County native\, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve and deployed to Fallujah\, Iraq in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom\, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for courage and distinguished service. \nIn his civilian career\, Captain Reeves continues his commitment to public service as an assistant commander of the Bucks County Major Incident Response Team (MIRT)\, a multi-agency partnership of 21 police departments that responds to major emergencies throughout the county. His leadership reflects a deep dedication to the safety and well-being of his community. \nDuring the ceremony\, he will offer reflections on sacrifice and the enduring meaning of Memorial Day\, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. \nMaster of Ceremonies: Lieutenant Colonel Spencer G. Garrison\nWe are also honored to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Spencer G. Garrison as Master of Ceremonies. With over 16 years of service in the U.S. Army\, including 13 years as a public affairs officer\, he has represented the Army on national and international stages. \nGarrison has commanded a public affairs detachment\, served at the corps and brigade levels\, and deployed to Iraq\, Afghanistan\, and other locations worldwide. He currently serves as Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers\, a major command of more than 35\,000 personnel supporting the engineering needs of the nation and military. \nA 2009 graduate of West Point\, he earned a master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2019. A Yardley native\, he enjoys running\, photography\, and spending time with his family. Since 2018\, he has also served as an oarsman alongside his father during the annual reenactment of Washington’s Crossing of the Delaware. \n \n\nDue to anticipated increased attendance this year\, we kindly request that all guests pre-register. DESCRIPTION:Friends of Washington Crossing Park and Andalusia Historic House\, Gardens & Arboretum are excited to partner on a special program highlighting Andalusia’s upcoming exhibition\, Revolutionary Family: The Biddles & American Independence. \nAndalusia Historic House\, Gardens & Arboretum is a 50-acre site located on the Delaware River in Bensalem\, Pennsylvania. Andalusia was first established in 1795 by Philadelphia merchant John Craig\, and later expanded into a Greek Revival estate by his son-in-law Nicholas Biddle in the nineteenth century. Today\, Andalusia stewards the Biddle family’s history and legacy through tours of its historic house museum and access to its spectacular gardens. \nTimed to coincide with the nation’s semiquincentennial\, “Revolutionary Family: The Biddles & American Independence” presents historic objects\, artwork\, and manuscripts to explore the influential roles that Biddle family members played during the Revolution\, as well as wartime activities near the pre-Andalusia site. The exhibition\, on display in Andalusia’s second-floor exhibition gallery\, will run from March 30 through November 13\, 2026. Visit Andalusia’s website for more information on this upcoming exhibit. \nAndalusia has created four short-format documentary videos that feature a variety of guest experts and Andalusia’s Executive Director John Vick and Research Assistant Brie Stoltzfus to illuminate the experiences of nine Revolutionary-era Biddle family members. Each video explores these family members’ stories of bravery\, loss\, ingenuity\, love\, and friendship during the Revolution: Mary Scull Biddle\, matriarch and map editor and her son John Biddle\, surveyor and exiled loyalist; Colonel Clement and Rebekah Biddle\, a devoted couple at camp; Captains Nicholas and Charles Biddle\, brothers at sea; and Edward\, James\, and Owen Biddle\, leaders of Revolutionary thought and action. \nA screening of these videos will take place at Washington Crossing Historic Park on May 14. Using genealogical sources\, legal documents\, and other correspondence\, Fanelli reveals for the first time the life and experiences of this remarkable heroine of the American Revolution. \nLectures will begin at 6 PM\, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Copies of these titles will be available for purchase during the event or our online gift shop\, The Quartermaster’s Store.\nAll proceeds go towards supporting the Old Barracks Museum and its mission.\nAbout Robery Fanelli: Robert N. Fanelli is a founding member of the Washington Crossing Revolutionary War Round Table. He serves as a Trustee of the Swan Historical Foundation\, which owns the excellent collection of revolutionary war artifacts on display in the museum of the Washington Crossing State Park in Titusville\, New Jersey. He is particularly interested in Pennsylvania’s role in the American Revolution\, and has lived most of his life along the flanks of Edge Hill\, site of an encounter between the American and British armies on December 7\, 1777.
