Led by the park’s Museum Curator\, Kimberly McCarty\, the club meets virtually via Zoom and focuses on books that shed new light on the Revolutionary era\, with special emphasis on the events surrounding the Delaware River crossing and the 1776 campaign. Free and open to all\, meetings typically take place on the third Monday of each month and provide an opportunity to connect with fellow readers while deepening your understanding of this pivotal period in American history. \nThe fighting prowess of United States Marines is second to none\, but few know of the Corps’ humble beginnings and what it achieved during the early years of the American Revolution. Jason Bohm rectifies this oversight with his eye-opening Washington’s Marines: The Origins of the Corps and the American Revolution\, 1775–1777. \nThe story begins with the oppressive days that drove America into a conflict for which it was ill-prepared\, when thirteen independent colonies commenced a war against the world’s most powerful military with nothing more than local militias\, privateers\, and other ad hoc units. The Continental Congress rushed to form an army and placed George Washington in command\, but soon realized that\, to win its freedom\, America would need men who could fight on the sea and on land. DESCRIPTION:Kick off our Fall Lecture Series on October 15th with author Arthur S. Lefkowitz. Lefkowitz will discuss his book\, “George Washington’s Dilemma.”\n“George Washington’s Dilemma” tackles the story of the French volunteers who helped win American independence. Volunteers were commissioned as officers in the Continental Army\, and some had become great assets to General Washington\, while others were frauds who came to America to make money.\nLectures will begin at 6 PM at the Old Barracks Museum\, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be available. Copies of these titles are available for purchase in-store or at www.barracks.org. DESCRIPTION:We hope you can join us for a special poetry reading from artist Rebecca Haff Lowry\, creator of Pennsbury Manor’s exhibit “The Cape of a Matriarch.” Event is included in admission fees: $9 Adult/$7 Senior/$5 Child. Members FREE. \nABOUT Rebecca Haff Lowry:  \nRebecca Haff Lowry is a citizen of the Delaware Tribe of Indians\, a federally recognized band of Lenape\, headquartered in Bartlesville\, Oklahoma. She is a poet\, artist and curriculum development specialist. Working with partners across the state of California\, Lowry helped produce the state’s first ever K-12 Native American Studies Model Curriculum. Her turkey feather cloak\, The Cape of a Matriarch\, has been exhibited at Brooklyn Public Library\, Montclair Art Museum and Brooklyn Museum. In collaboration with Dutch artist\, Inge Meijer\, Lowry led a “Walking Poetry” reading\, in October 2025. This event presented the poem\, “Final Inscription\,” an intervention on the narrative inscribed in the plaque at Shorakkapoch Rock\, at Inwood Hill Park\, Manhattan. Five of Lowry’s poems appear in Lenapehoking: An Anthology\, which was produced by the Brooklyn Public Library and the Lenape Center. Lowry completed a curriculum for the de Young Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco\, designing youth engagement strategies for their Native arts galleries. Lowry currently works as a Curriculum Development Specialist for the Academy of Professional Excellence\, School of Social Work\, at San Diego State University. \n

Learn how these plants were used for food\, textiles\, and everyday remedies while discovering how historians and gardeners reconstruct historic landscapes using period sources. \nAlong the way\, Anna will share stories about early American gardening practices\, heirloom plant varieties\, and the role gardens played in the daily life of families living along the Delaware River during the Revolutionary era.\nThis tour is part of Farmstead Friday programming and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the research\, cultivation\, and care that bring this historic garden to life. \n
