SUMMARY:Telling the Whole Story: Interpreting Difficult Histories for America 250
DESCRIPTION:As we prepare for America’s 250th anniversary\, museums and historic sites have a critical role to play in telling a fuller\, more inclusive story of our nation’s founding. This half-day workshop is designed to help rural and local history organizations navigate and interpret the complex—and often uncomfortable—topics of race\, religion\, and nation-making in ways that are thoughtful\, honest\, and community-centered. \nJoin us for an engaging\, practical session featuring regional leaders who are actively tackling these themes in their own institutions: \n\nRace — Shirley Lee Corsey\, Director of Gather Place Museum\, will explore how museums can engage with the legacies of race and racism in our founding stories and local communities.\nNation-Making — Doug Miller from Pennsbury Manor will guide participants through the complexities of defining “America” in 1776 and who was included (and excluded) from that vision.\nReligion — Devin Manzullo-Thomas\, director of the Sider Institute for Anabaptist\, Pietist\, and Wesleyan Studies and author of Exhibiting Evangelicalism: Commemoration\, Conservative Christianity\, and Religion’s Presence of the Past\, will discuss how museums can discuss issues of faith\, spirituality\, and ecclesiology around the 250th anniversary of America.\n\nThis workshop will include group discussions\, real-life examples\, and actionable tools to help you lead conversations at your site with confidence and care. \n  \nTickets: \nFREE For RHC Members \n$25 NON-MEMBERS

SUMMARY:Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Washington Crossing Historic Park Book Club invites history enthusiasts to explore the American Revolution through engaging discussion and carefully selected readings. Led by the park’s Museum Curator\, Kimberly McCarty\, the club meets virtually via Zoom and focuses on books that shed new light on the Revolutionary era\, with special emphasis on the events surrounding the Delaware River crossing and the 1776 campaign. Free and open to all\, meetings typically take place on the third Monday of each month but may be moved depending on other events or the Park curator’s requirements\, and provide an opportunity to connect with fellow readers while deepening your understanding of this pivotal period in American history.\n\nKick off 2026 with the Washington Crossing Historic Park Book Club as we read and discuss Michael D. Hattem’s The Memory of ’76. This thought-provoking work examines how Americans have remembered and interpreted the Revolution over time\, challenging familiar narratives and encouraging fresh perspectives. During this virtual Zoom meeting\, participants will discuss the Introduction – Chapter 5 with guidance from the park’s curator and fellow readers. The program is free to attend\, participants are responsible for obtaining their own copy of the book. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.\n\nSign up Here

SUMMARY:Ten Crucial Days Bus Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Traversing the Ten Crucial Days Bus Tour begins and ends at Washington Crossing\, PA. Guests spend the day retracing the December 25 crossing of the Delaware and the December 26\, 1776 through January 3\, 1777 American and British military engagements at Trenton\, Princeton and areas in-between. \nHistorical interpreters Roger Williams and Larry Kidder will tell the remarkable story of these ten days that breathed crucial new life into the apparently expiring American Revolution. The events are discussed in the context of the local\, strategically important central New Jersey towns\, villages\, and farms. These locales were occupied by people of diverse backgrounds; with varying religious practices such as Quaker\, Presbyterian\, and Anglican; and with complex views on loyalty to the Revolution or the King. \nHear how the terrain\, weaponry and weather influenced the ways the battles were fought and how the lives of the local people were disrupted by them. See where armies marched\, fought and struggled to survive on an otherwise peaceful landscape\, while the course of human history hung in the balance. \nThe next public bus tours will be offered on December 13th and December 26th\, 2025 and January 3rd and January 16th 2026. Tours last from 9 AM to 4 PM. \nCost is $155 per person and includes bus fare\, boxed lunch\, and donations to Washington Crossing Historic Park\, The Washington Crossing Park Association in New Jersey\, The Old Barracks Museum in Trenton and the Princeton Battlefield Society. \n  \nJanuary 16

SUMMARY:2025 Battles of Trenton Reenactments
DESCRIPTION:The Battle Reenactments are free to attend. The Museum has a reduced admission of $5 for all day reentry. \nWhen are the battle reenactments?\nThis year the battles are on December 27\, 2025. The first battle reenactment starts at 11 am at the Battle of Trenton Monument. The second battle reenactment starts at 3 pm in Mill Hill Park.\nThe Reenactments are always the Saturday following Christmas. When Christmas falls on a Saturday\, the Reenactments take place on Sunday the 26th.\nWhy are there two battle reenactments?\nThere are two Battles of Trenton that ultimately shaped the destiny of the American Revolution and our nation! The first Battle of Trenton took place on December 26\, 1776 following the crossing of the Delaware. The Second Battle of Trenton (sometimes called the Battle of the Assunpink) took place on January 2\, 1777. The morning reenactment is the Battle of Trenton; the afternoon reenactment is the Second Battle of Trenton.\nWhere do the reenactments take place?\nBoth battles are reenacted on the original battlefields!\nThe first reenactment starts at the Battle of Trenton Monument and follows Warren Street south to Mill Hill Park. The battle is reenacted in the streets and spectators follow along safely on the sidewalks.\nThe second Battle of Trenton takes place in Mill Hill Park\, along the Assunpink Creek.\nHow much does it cost to see the Battle Reenactments?\nThe Battle Reenactments are free to attend! Admission to the Old Barracks Museum is reduced to $5 for all-day re-entry.\nWhere do I park?\nInformation about parking in Trenton is available on the Trenton Downtown Association’s website.\nWhat happens if it snows?\nThe battles are still reenacted! Just like the real Battle of Trenton\, the reenactments happen in all kinds of weather\, whether it’s 6″ of snow or 55 degrees!\nWhat else is happening that day?\nThe battle reenactments are just two events on a busy day of an exciting week! The Old Barracks Museum hosts “The Trouble With Trenton” interactive puppet shows at 12 pm and 2 pm at Warren Street Plaza.\nThere are always other events happening throughout Trenton as well. Be sure to visit the Patriots Week website for a full schedule of the week!\nThe Old Barracks Museum will be closed for restoration.\nCan I join the Battle?\nOnly registered reenactor regiments can participate in the Battle of Trenton Reenactments. If you’re interested in reenacting\, you can look up the various groups and contact each individually.\nWhere do I see Washington cross the Delaware?\nThe Crossing of the Delaware is reenacted by Washington Crossing Historic Park. Information about their events\, including\, the Crossing Reenactment\, is available on their website.\n
