DESCRIPTION:Hear a fascinating talk by visiting lecturer Dr. Randall Miller about the ever-evolving field of study of American slavery. \nA major challenge to historians studying slavery is the lack of written documents from the perspective of enslaved people. This\, of course\, was the result of deliberate attempts from enslavers to prevent the enslaved from having their stories heard. \nHowever\, over the past 50 years especially\, the study of slavery has been transformed by findings from archaeology\, folklore\, linguistics\, musicology\, and more\, and the use of such findings has made the enslaved not only more knowable but also gives them greater voice in their history \nIn his talk entitled “The World(s) the Enslaved Made\,” Dr. Randall Miller will discuss some of the ways the new understandings of the enslaved and their culture might apply to Pennsbury and slavery in William Penn’s day and after. \nAdvance registration is $8 for adults (12 – 64)\, $6 for seniors (65+)\, and $4 for children (3-11). \nREGISTER HERE

Walk in the footprints of Washington’s troops and listen to exciting narratives of soldier and civilian experiences. Your tour is led by an approved Historical Interpreter. \nFollowing the approximate one hour tour\, visit the historic Thomas Clarke House\, the home of a Quaker farming family and the only remaining structure from the January 3\, 1777 Battle of Princeton. \nTours start promptly at 1 pm on Sundays. SUMMARY:Lecture – Brady Crytzer – “The Whiskey Rebellion: A Distilled History of an American Crisis”
DESCRIPTION:This is a hybrid event.  Visitors may attend in-person in the Visitor Center Auditorium or virtually on Zoom. Registration required.  Log-in information provided at registration. \nJoin historian Brady Crytzer as he discusses his book The Whiskey Rebellion:  A Distilled History of an American Crisis. \nIn March 1791 Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton shocked the western frontier when he proposed a tax on whiskey to balance America’s national debt. The law\, known  as the “Whiskey Act\,” disproportionately penalized farmers in the backcountry\, while offering favorable tax incentives designed to protect larger distillers. Settlers in Western Pennsylvania bristled at its passage and demanded that the law be revoked or rewritten to correct its perceived injustices.  As the months passed people  grew restless with the inadequacy of the government’s response and they soon turned to more violent means of political expression.   In response President George Washington raised one of the largest forces he ever commanded to suppress the rebellion. No major battle ever occurred\, but weeks of arrests\, illegal detentions\, and civil rights violations rocked the west. The event polarized the nation.

All proceeds go towards supporting the Old Barracks Museum and its mission. \nOctober 10th: Michael C Harris “Germantown”\nToday\, Germantown is a busy neighborhood in Philadelphia. On October 4\, 1777\, it was a small village on the outskirts of the colonial capital whose surrounding fields and streets witnessed one of the largest battles of the American Revolution. The bloody battle represented George Washington’s attempt to recapture Philadelphia\, but has long been overshadowed by better-known events like Brandywine\, Saratoga\, and Valley Forge.
