SUMMARY:Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThe Washington Crossing Historic Park Book Club invites history enthusiasts to explore the American Revolution through engaging discussion and carefully selected readings. Led by the park’s Museum Curator\, Kimberly McCarty\, the club meets virtually via Zoom and focuses on books that shed new light on the Revolutionary era\, with special emphasis on the events surrounding the Delaware River crossing and the 1776 campaign. Free and open to all\, meetings typically take place on the third Monday of each month and provide an opportunity to connect with fellow readers while deepening your understanding of this pivotal period in American history. \nThe fighting prowess of United States Marines is second to none\, but few know of the Corps’ humble beginnings and what it achieved during the early years of the American Revolution. Jason Bohm rectifies this oversight with his eye-opening Washington’s Marines: The Origins of the Corps and the American Revolution\, 1775–1777. \nThe story begins with the oppressive days that drove America into a conflict for which it was ill-prepared\, when thirteen independent colonies commenced a war against the world’s most powerful military with nothing more than local militias\, privateers\, and other ad hoc units. The Continental Congress rushed to form an army and placed George Washington in command\, but soon realized that\, to win its freedom\, America would need men who could fight on the sea and on land. Enter the Marines. Bohm artfully tells the story of the creation of the Continental Marines and the men who led them during the parallel paths followed by the Army and Marines in the opening years of the war and through the early successes and failures at Lexington and Concord\, Bunker Hill\, Canada\, Boston\, Charleston\, and more. \nWashington’s Marines:  The Origins of the Corps and the American Revolution\, 1775-1777 \n\nSeptember 21 – Prologue – Chapter 3\nOctober 19 – Chapters 4-5\nNovember 16- Chapters 6-7\nDecember 21- Chapters 8-9\nJanuary 21- Chapter 10 – Appendix B\n\n

SUMMARY:Pennsbury Manor’s Book Club
DESCRIPTION:We hope you can join us for a discussion of “The Turtle’s Beating Heart: One Family’s Story of Lenape Survival.” Free admission for the book club. Participants are welcome to stay and explore the grounds with a purchase of an admission ticket. \nBook Description (Source: Goodreads): \n“Low brings to light deeply held secrets of Native ancestry as she recovers the life story of her Kansas grandfather\, Frank Bruner (1889–1963). She remembers her childhood in Kansas\, where her grandparents remained at a distance\, personally and physically\, from their grandchildren\, despite living only a few miles away. As an adult\, she comes to understand her grandfather’s Delaware (Lenape) legacy of persecution and heroic survival in the southern plains of the early 1900s\, where the Ku Klux Klan attacked Native people along with other ethnic minorities. As a result of such experiences\, the Bruner family fled to Kansas City and suppressed their non-European ancestry as completely as possible. As Low unravels this hidden family history of the Lenape diaspora\, she discovers the lasting impact of trauma and substance abuse\, the deep sense of loss and shame related to suppressed family emotions\, and the power of collective memory. \nLow traveled extensively around Kansas\, tracking family history until she understood her grandfather’s political activism and his healing heritage of connections to the land. In this moving exploration of her grandfather’s life\, the former poet laureate of Kansas evokes the beauty of the Flint Hills grasslands\, the hardships her grandfather endured\, and the continued discovery of his teachings.” \nPlease sign up for the book club HERE. \n

SUMMARY:Lecture – “River of Victory: The Daily Delaware Crossings of December 1776”
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \nWe are excited to welcome award-winning historian and author William “Larry” Kidder. Kidder is the author of multiple books on the Ten Crucial Days campaign and New Jersey’s role in the American Revolution.  His work is known for blending military history with the civilian experience. \nDrawing from his newest book\, River of Victory\, Kidder examines the multiple crossings of the Delaware River by the Continental Army in December 1776\, the army’s encampments in Bucks County\, multiple harassment raids against the enemy in New Jersey\, and Washington’s decision to attack Trenton. \nActive members of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park\, The Hopewell Museum and/or Hopewell Valley Historical Society are invited to a pre-lecture reception with author Larry Kidder. There is an RSVP checkbox you can select as you register for the event. If you would like to become a member of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park\, visit our Become a member webpage. \nThis lecture will be offered in a hybrid format\, with both in-person and virtual attendance options available. SUMMARY:First Crossing Reenactment 2026
DESCRIPTION:Photograph by Brian Wagner\, BWags Photography.\n\n\n\n \nWitness the Crossing That Saved the Revolution\n\n\n\nEach December\, thousands of visitors gather along the banks of the Delaware River to commemorate General George Washington’s daring crossing on Christmas Night 1776. \n\n\n\nIn 2026\, we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Crossing\, a pivotal moment in the Ten Crucial Days and the American Revolution. \n\n\n\nThe Crossing Reenactment brings this history to life with hundreds of reenactors and living historians portraying 18th-century military and civilian life. Visitors can experience historical interpretation\, fife and drum performances\, artillery and musket demonstrations\, speeches\, educational activities\, and the gathering of troops along the Delaware River before reenactors board replica Durham boats for the crossing into New Jersey. \n\n\n\nTwo Opportunities to Witness the Crossing\n\n\n\nThe public has two opportunities to experience the Crossing Reenactment at Washington Crossing Historic Park. \n\n\n\nDue to significantly higher attendance anticipated for the 250th anniversary in 2026\, advance registration will be required for both the First Crossing and Christmas Day Crossing reenactments. \n\n\n\nPlease note that this is a change from previous years. Visitors should plan to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets will only be available at the door if the event has not sold out. \n\n\n\nRegistration helps us prepare for increased attendance\, parking\, transportation\, public safety\, and the overall visitor experience. \n\n\n\nFirst Crossing\n\n\n\nSunday\, December 13\, 2026\n\n\n\nTime: 10:00 AM–3:00 PMRiver Crossing: Approximately 1:00 PMAdmission: $10 adults | $6 children ages 5–11 | Free for children under 5Family Rate: $30 for two adults and two children under 18Registration: Required. Attendance is capped for 2026\, and tickets may sell out in advance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThe First Crossing features a full day of living history throughout the Historic Village. In addition to the reenactment\, visitors can experience demonstrations and programs highlighting 18th-century civilian and military life\, with activities for visitors of all ages. Food vendors will also be on site. \nFirst Crossing Narrator\nSergeant Major of the Army Michael R. Weimer poses in the Army portrait studio at the Pentagon in Arlington\, Va.\, Mar. 20\, 2024. (U.S. Army photo by Christopher Kaufmann)\nThe Friends of Washington Crossing Park is honored to welcome Sergeant Major of the Army Michael R. Weimer as narrator for the December 13 First Crossing Reenactment\, marking the 250th anniversary of Washington’s crossing of the Delaware. \nWeimer became the 17th Sergeant Major of the Army in August 2023\, following a career of more than 30 years in military service. He enlisted in 1993\, earned his Green Beret in 1996\, and served with the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) before spending nearly 20 years in Special Mission Units. \nHe has held senior enlisted leadership positions with Special Operations Joint Task Force–Afghanistan and U.S. Special Operations Command Central. Before his current appointment\, he served as Command Sergeant Major of U.S. Army Special Operations Command. His military honors include six Bronze Star Medals\, three with valor devices\, and two Purple Hearts. \nWe are grateful to have him join us as we remember the soldiers of 1776 and honor the generations who have served our country since. \n\n\n\n \n  \n\n\n\nChristmas Crossing\n\n\n\nFriday\, December 25\, 2026\n\n\n\nTime: 12:00–3:00 PMRiver Crossing: Approximately 1:00 PMAdmission: FreeRegistration: Attendance is capped for 2026\, advance registration is encouraged to secure your spot. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nCelebrate the 74th Annual Christmas Day Crossing Reenactment and the 250th anniversary of Washington’s historic Christmas Night crossing. \n\n\n\nSeveral hundred reenactors in Continental military dress gather along the Delaware River\, hear General Washington address the troops\, and prepare to board replica Durham boats for the journey across the river into New Jersey. \n\n\n\nAdmission remains free for the Christmas Day Crossing. Advance registration is required in 2026 due to the larger-than-normal attendance anticipated for the 250th anniversary. \n\n\n\nRiver Crossing & Weather Conditions\n\n\n\nThe river crossing is one component of the larger reenactment event\, and our goal is always to provide this part of the experience whenever it can be done safely. \n\n\n\nThe crossing is contingent upon safe weather and river conditions for participants. If we know that conditions will not allow the river crossing to take place\, an update will be posted on our webpage by 8:00 AM on the day of the event. Visitors should check this webpage for the most current information before traveling to the park. \n\n\n\nIn some cases\, river conditions may remain uncertain into the morning. If conditions initially appear unfavorable\, we will make every reasonable effort to safely conduct the crossing up until the time of the event. \n\n\n\nIf the boats are unable to cross the Delaware River\, the reenactment event will still take place. Visitors can still experience the ceremonies\, speeches\, living history demonstrations\, military and civilian interpretation\, music\, educational activities\, and other commemorative programming scheduled throughout the event. \n\n\n\nPlan your visit:\n\n\n\n\n\nParking & Transportation+\n\n\n\n\nWashington Crossing Historic Park is located at the intersection of Routes 532 and 32 (River Road) in Washington Crossing\, Pennsylvania. \n\n\n\nGPS Address:1112 River RoadWashington Crossing\, PA 18977 \n\n\n\n[GET DIRECTIONS] \n\n\n\nWe are expecting significantly higher attendance than usual for the 250th anniversary Crossing events in 2026. \n\n\n\nAs with our Independence Day celebration\, we will be working with a professional parking company and local emergency services to develop a comprehensive parking\, traffic\, and transportation plan for the events. \n\n\n\nDetailed information\, including designated parking areas\, traffic patterns\, shuttle service\, and recommended arrival times\, will be posted here in late October 2026. \n\n\n\nVisitors are strongly encouraged to review this information before traveling to the park.Registered event participants will receive regular event updates throughout our online ticketing platform. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccessibility+\n\n\n\n\n+ Accessibility \n\n\n\nWashington Crossing Historic Park is committed to making the Crossing Reenactment accessible to our visitors. \n\n\n\nIndividuals with disabilities who need special assistance or accommodations to attend the event should contact the Washington Crossing Historic Park Visitor Center at 215-493-4076\, or email in**@********************rk.org. \n\n\n\nAdditional event-specific accessibility and handicap parking information will be posted here as plans are finalized. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriends of Washington Crossing Park Members+\n\n\n\n\nMembers of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park receive special benefits during the Crossing Reenactment\, including access to a heated members-only tent with refreshments during the First Crossing and Christmas Crossing. \n\n\n\nAdditional information about 2026 member benefits\, passes\, and access will be provided directly to members via email before the events.
