SUMMARY:Black History Month Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Black History Month with an engaging and thought-provoking program at Pennsbury Manor. On February 23rd from 1-4pm\, join Pennsbury Manor and Gather Place as we grapple with how Quakers’ ideals of equality and justice coexisted with slavery.\n\n\nLearn about the history of slavery in Pennsylvania from Pennsbury’s Director\, Doug Miller. Then\, enjoy a dramatization of the 1688 Germantown Quaker Petition Against Slavery\, the first protest of slavery by a religious body in the thirteen colonies. We’ll discuss William Penn’s participation in the institution of slavery in the context of rising pro-abolition views amongst Quakers.\n\n\nAfterwards\, enjoy a riveting presentation by Shirley Lee Corsey\, Executive Director of Gather Place museum at the Historic African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church of Yardley. Witness her compelling first-person portrayal of Susanna Warder—an enslaved woman who lived and worked at Pennsbury Manor from birth in 1701 until death at the age of 109.\n\n\nMs. Corsey will then illuminate untold stories of African American contributions to Yardley Borough\, Bucks County\, and beyond that connect local history to powerful themes of justice and equality.\n\n\nAdmission to this event is free. Donations are encouraged.\n\n\n\nDon’t miss the chance to hear these powerful testimonials as we pay tribute to the strength and resilience of the people\, Black and white\, enslaved and free\, who sacrificed to ensure a more just future for all.

SUMMARY:2024 Battles of Trenton Reenactments
DESCRIPTION:The Battle Reenactments are free to attend. The Museum has a reduced admission of $5 for all day reentry. \nWhen are the battle reenactments?\nThis year the battles are on December 28\, 2023. The first battle reenactment starts at 11 am at the Battle of Trenton Monument. The second battle reenactment starts at 3 pm in Mill Hill Park.\nThe Reenactments are always the Saturday following Christmas. When Christmas falls on a Saturday\, the Reenactments take place on Sunday the 26th.\nWhy are there two battle reenactments?\nThere are two Battles of Trenton that ultimately shaped the destiny of the American Revolution and our nation! The first Battle of Trenton took place on December 26\, 1776 following the crossing of the Delaware. The Second Battle of Trenton (sometimes called the Battle of the Assunpink) took place on January 2\, 1777. The morning reenactment is the Battle of Trenton; the afternoon reenactment is the Second Battle of Trenton.\nWhere do the reenactments take place?\nBoth battles are reenacted on the original battlefields!\nThe first reenactment starts at the Battle of Trenton Monument and follows Warren Street south to Mill Hill Park. The battle is reenacted in the streets and spectators follow along safely on the sidewalks.\nThe second Battle of Trenton takes place in Mill Hill Park\, along the Assunpink Creek.\nHow much does it cost to see the Battle Reenactments?\nThe Battle Reenactments are free to attend! Admission to the Old Barracks Museum is reduced to $5 for all-day re-entry.\nWhere do I park?\nInformation about parking in Trenton is available on the Trenton Downtown Association’s website.\nWhat happens if it snows?\nThe battles are still reenacted! Just like the real Battle of Trenton\, the reenactments happen in all kinds of weather\, whether it’s 6″ of snow or 55 degrees!\nWhat else is happening that day?\nThe battle reenactments are just two events on a busy day of an exciting week! The Old Barracks Museum hosts “The Trouble With Trenton” interactive puppet shows at 12 pm and 2 pm at Warren Street Plaza. The museum is open from 10 am – 5 pm to explore\, a musket demo takes place at 1 pm\, and there are lots of exciting reenactor experiences happening all day.\nThere are always other events happening throughout Trenton as well. Be sure to visit the Patriots Week website for a full schedule of the week!\nCan I join the Battle?\nOnly registered reenactor regiments can participate in the Battle of Trenton Reenactments. If you’re interested in reenacting\, you can look up the various groups and contact each individually.\nWhere do I see Washington cross the Delaware?\nThe Crossing of the Delaware is reenacted by Washington Crossing Historic Park. Information about their events\, including\, the Crossing Reenactment\, is available on their website.\n

SUMMARY:72nd Annual Christmas Day Crossing Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:Each December\, thousands of people gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event\, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats. \nOn Wednesday\, December 25th\, celebrate the 72nd annual Christmas Day Crossing from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM (actual crossing at 1:00 PM). Arrival by 11:30 AM is recommended to secure a good view. Admission is free\, thanks to proceeds from the December 8th Crossing and contributions from many generous donors. \nRiver Crossings are contingent upon safe weather conditions for participants. However\, even if conditions do not allow for crossing\, guests can still participate in historic ceremonies\, speeches\, and commemorative colonial-era activities. \nWashington Crossing Historic Park is located at the intersection of Routes 532 and 32 (River Road) in Washington Crossing\, Pennsylvania. Use the following address in GPS: 1112 River Road\, Washington Crossing\, PA 18977.  Parking is free and will be clearly marked for both events. \nIndividuals with disabilities who need special assistance or accommodations to attend should call the Washington Crossing Historic Park Visitor Center at 215-493-4076. \nMembers of the Friends of Washington Crossing Park receive passes to a heated members-only tent with refreshments\, provided by McCaffrey’s Food Markets. \n\nFor more event information visit our Crossing Reenactment Page.
