SUMMARY:3rd Annual Washington's Landing in New Jersey
DESCRIPTION:On December 8\, from 11 am to 3:30 pm\, please join NJ State Park historians\, the Washington Crossing Park Association\, the First Rhode Island Regiment\, and other NJ-based reenactor groups who will give the public an opportunity to experience both the Crossing and the March to Trenton through the eyes of the men and women who lived it. \nThe title of this event is “Washington’s Landing in New Jersey\,” which occurs on the same day as the Pennsylvania Park’s rehearsal crossing of the Delaware. Reenactors who cross with Washington will be met by our General Nathaneal Greene\, who will invite them to an encampment in the Lower Park. Near the encampment will be a Haybale Theater where historians Leslie Bramlett and Noah Lewis will speak on the contributions of New Jersey soldiers and families\, with a focus on the contributions of African Americans both free and enslaved. Visitors will also be welcomed at the nearby Nelson House\, where volunteers from the Garden Club of Trenton will serve free hot cider and donuts in front of a roaring fire. A food truck will be on hand! Free to enter\, but a $10/carload donation is requested.

DESCRIPTION:Each December\, thousands of people gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 Christmas night river crossing. During the event\, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by General Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats. \nJoin us for the First Crossing on Sunday\, December 8th\, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM (actual crossing at 1:00 PM). This is not a dress rehearsal\, but rather a fundraising event. Beyond witnessing the historical reenactment\, visitors can immerse themselves in the Colonial Era for the day. Bowry\, Jr.\, Executive Director\, U.S. Army Center of Military History \nCharles R. Bowery\, Jr.\, Executive Director\, U.S. Army Center of Military History and Chief of Military History\, oversees the management of 29 Army museums\, including the National Museum of the United States Army. Mr. Bowery is responsible for the overall direction of historical matters throughout the Department of the Army and supervises the production of Army historical works and studies. He is also a published author and a specialist in the American Civil War. \nFeatured Author & Book Signing: Jason A. Cherry \nJason A. Cherry\, an independent historian and research consultant\, will share his work on William Trent\, a notable figure of 18th-century America. Cherry’s latest book\, William Trent: The Factor of Ambition\, offers a fresh perspective on Trent’s complex legacy and his role in shaping early American history. DESCRIPTION:General George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River invokes memories of the Continental Army struggling for its survival through the harsh winter weather\, poor shelter\, and scant clothing. Come join us on Saturday\, December 7\, 2024 as our living historians take you back in time to experience the reality of the encampment at the Thompson-Neely farm on which several regiments of the Continental army were quartered. This immersive experience will put you in the midst of what daily life was like for the soldiers\, how they lived\, what they ate\, and most importantly how they survived the conditions before they crossed the Delaware River and went on to win at Trenton. \nThis year visitors will also have an opportunity to tour the newly opened Thompson Neely House and get a first look at new exhibits that illustrate the history of the role of the house during Washington’s encampment in December 1776\, before the Christmas Night Crossing on December 25th.
