SUMMARY:Lecture – “Toasting the Tories: The Doan Gang and Bucks County Taverns”
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Clint Flack and Annie Halliday from the Mercer Museum\, part of the Bucks County Historical Society and home to one of the region’s most significant collections documenting everyday life in Bucks County and the Delaware Valley. Their work brings together material culture and local stories to help visitors understand how national events shaped daily life in our own communities. \nIn this engaging program\, they explore tavern culture in Revolutionary era Bucks County through the story of the infamous Doan Gang.  The program examines how taverns supported local economies and were critical to the spread of news and revolutionary ideas\, making them the perfect gathering places for members of the Doan Gang.  Tavern operator Augustine Willet\, who crossed the Delaware with Washington’s army\, will be highlighted. After the presentation visitors are invited to view some of Willet’s belongings\, on loan from the Mercer Museum\, in the park’s Exhibit Gallery. \nWashington Crossing Historic Park’s free lecture series is made possible by our General Level Supporter\, America250PA\, through the Lecture250 Grant Program.

SUMMARY:Table Saw Talk
DESCRIPTION:After making its Washington Crossing debut during our Independence Day Celebration\, the full-scale Durham boat replica has remained in the Boat Barn\, where the Independence Seaport Museum (ISM) team continues its work. \nSince July 4\, Dave Dormand\, Director of the Seaport Boat Shop\, has installed wooden plugs to conceal the fasteners\, begun smoothing the hull\, steam-bent structural supports for the deck\, and prepared the breasthooks and aft deck beams for installation. \nNext\, the team will complete the fore and aft decks\, build the bulkheads beneath them\, install the flooring\, and begin finish work\, including painting and oiling the hull and decks. \nVisitors will have a new opportunity to learn about the project during the first on-site Table Saw Talks at WCHP on Sunday\, August 16 and Sunday\, September 13 from 10:00-11:00 am. Led by ISM shipwrights\, these informal conversations will explore traditional wooden boatbuilding methods\, materials\, and the history of the Durham boats used during Washington’s famous crossing of the Delaware. \nThis is a pay-what-you-wish program. Advance registration is required\, and donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. \nLearn more about our Durham Boat Project by visiting www.washingtoncrossingpark.org/the-durham-boat-project/. \n \nThank you to our Durham Boat Project supporters!\n  \nHeritage Builder ($100\,000+)\nPreserving Partners ($25\,000+)\n \nGeneral Level Supporters ($10\,000+)\n \nColonel Level Supporter ($5\,000+)

SUMMARY:Hibbs House Garden Tours – August 2026
DESCRIPTION:Join Washington Crossing Historic Park’s Historical Horticulturist\, Anna Davis\, for a guided walk through the working garden that supports the park’s interpretation of colonial life. \nDuring this 45-minute tour\, visitors will explore the seasonal herbs\, vegetables\, flowers\, and dye plants that would have been commonly grown in American kitchen gardens of the 1700s. Learn how these plants were used for food\, textiles\, and everyday remedies while discovering how historians and gardeners reconstruct historic landscapes using period sources. \nAlong the way\, Anna will share stories about early American gardening practices\, heirloom plant varieties\, and the role gardens played in the daily life of families living along the Delaware River during the Revolutionary era.\nThis tour is part of Farmstead Friday programming and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the research\, cultivation\, and care that bring this historic garden to life. \n
