SUMMARY:Curator Tour: McConkey's Ferry Inn
DESCRIPTION:Peek into the Revolutionary War era on a free guided tour of McConkey’s Ferry Inn in the Historic Village on Sunday\, August 30 at 1:30 PM.\nPark curator Kimberly McCarty will lead a guided tour of the building. From McConkey’s Ferry on December 25\, 1776\, hours before the crossing\, Washington wrote to Colonel Cadwalader: “I am determined as the night is favorable to cross the River…”\nThe first ferry building was built in 1752\, but only the basement kitchen remains. The current inn was built in several stages; the west side\, the one farthest from the river\, was built around 1790 and includes the original basement. The building represents a typical country inn or tavern of the Revolutionary era and suggests the variety of amenities that would have been available to travelers at that time.\nCapacity is limited to the first 15 registrants. Registration opens August 1. Please call the Visitor Center at 215-493-4076 to register.
