From April through October 2026\, Washington Crossing Historic Park hosts Soldier Saturdays & Farmstead Fridays. Presented in partnership with Americana Corner\, these free monthly programs explore military and civilian life during the American Revolution. \nUpcoming Programs\n\nFarmstead Fridays – Thompson-Neely Farmstead\nExplore civilian life during the Revolution with hands-on demonstrations. SUMMARY:Lecture – “Toasting the Tories:  The Doan Gang and Bucks County Taverns”
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome Clint Flack and Annie Halliday from the Mercer Museum\, part of the Bucks County Historical Society and home to one of the region’s most significant collections documenting everyday life in Bucks County and the Delaware Valley. Their work brings together material culture and local stories to help visitors understand how national events shaped daily life in our own communities. \nIn this engaging program\, they explore tavern culture in Revolutionary era Bucks County through the story of the infamous Doan Gang.  The program examines how taverns supported local economies and were critical to the spread of news and revolutionary ideas\, making them the perfect gathering places for members of the Doan Gang.  Tavern operator Augustine Willet\, who crossed the Delaware with Washington’s army\, will be highlighted. After the presentation visitors are invited to view some of Willet’s belongings\, on loan from the Mercer Museum\, in the park’s Exhibit Gallery. \nWashington Crossing Historic Park’s free lecture series is made possible by our General Level Supporter\, America250PA\, through the Lecture250 Grant Program.

SUMMARY:Lecture – “Roger Lamb’s American Revolution: A British Soldier’s Story”
DESCRIPTION:We are honored to host Don N. Hagist\, Managing Editor of the Journal of the American Revolution (allthingsliberty.com) and a leading historian of British soldiers who served in America. His research is grounded in primary sources from archives in North America and Europe\, allowing him to tell the deeply personal and often overlooked stories of these soldiers and their families. \nHagist is also a consultant for the PBS documentary The American Revolution\, produced by Ken Burns\, and the author of several major works\, including Noble Volunteers\, The Revolution’s Last Men\, and These Distinguished Corps. He is also the editor of Roger Lamb’s American Revolution: A British Soldier’s Story. \nIn this talk\, Hagist explores the memoir of British soldier Roger Lamb\, whose writings provide rare insight into daily military life and the lives of civilians caught in the conflict.  He will highlight Lamb’s escape from American forces across the Delaware River in 1782.  An illustration of the incident includes the story of a Black ferryman in Bristol and what it reveals about the essential roles of river workers and enslaved laborers in the wartime landscape. \nThis lecture will be offered in a hybrid format\, with both in-person and virtual attendance options available. All you need to do is bring your military ID. For the Thompson-Neely House and Grist Mill tour\, pre-registration is required. You can sign up for tours online on our tickets page here\, if signing up online\, you should select the “children under 5 or active military ticket” to take advantage of the free tours\, we will check military IDs when you arrive.
