DESCRIPTION:This workshop is outside under a cozy roofed pavilion with picnic tables & a fire in a wood stove for warmth. Restrooms are available. Dress warm in layers. This is a 90 minute lecture & demonstration with audience participation to learn about the different types of equipment\, what to look for in selecting your first pair\, how to dress\, basic skills\, your 1st day on skis/snowshoes\, and where to go. If snow covered\, an additional 1+ hour outdoor ski lesson will be offered. If not\, trail maps are available for personal hiking on 2 miles of park trails. \nParticipants must provide their own ski equipment. DESCRIPTION:Find out where the Indians of Central New Jersey would travel in search of the stone materials they needed for making their tools and weapons. Learn why some of the most abundant varieties of shale in the area were so extensively used by the Indians. SUMMARY:TYROLEAN TRAVERSE
DESCRIPTION:(6- 12 yrs.) Tyrolean Traverse is a mountain rescue technique for crossing gorges and canyons on a horizontally suspended rope. In this case\, willing (or not) participants will be pulling themselves across the Nature Center’s vernal pond infested with killer frogs and tadpoles and genuine New Jersey crocodiles. (see the video posted on the WCSP Facebook page) The event will be ongoing throughout the afternoon\, weather permitting. Come prepared to get wet\, just in case. This is a kid-event however\, adult human guinea pigs will be considered if they’re not too heavy. Just come into the Nature Center and request the traverse.
