The painting — Washington’s Crossing Christmas 1776 by Emanuel Leutze, completed in 1851 — could not have done better at capturing the spirit of Christmas 1776. BUT, how did the 18 cannons, dozens of horses, and wagons get across the Delaware on that fateful night?Come join your neighbors to hear the answer! We’ll also examine the value and limitations of paintings in understanding history, and we’ll discuss the operation of river ferries. Free.
